Abstract:

Objective To analyze the current research status, hot spots, and frontiers in the field of researches related to return to work for cancer patients. Methods Using the Web of Science core collection database as the data source, we searched the literatures related to return to work of cancer patients from the establishment of the database to August 2022, and analyzed the countries/institutions, authors, and keywords of related studies using CiteSpace and VOSviewer. Results  A total of 2 172 relevant papers were included, and the number of publications had been increasing year by year in general. The United States, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands had the most publications in this field, and the important research institutions were the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, the Harvard University in the United States, and the University of London in the United Kingdom. The research directions were mainly in oncology, public environmental and occupational health, and rehabilitation. The most published journal was Supportive Care in Cancer. The researches mainly focused on the impact of return to work with breast cancer on the quality of life, the patients' experiences and feelings of return to work with breast cancer, prostate cancer, leukemia, and head and neck cancer, and the long-term outcomes of return to work for cancer survivors. Qualitative meta-analysis, occupational therapy interventions, and mental health status of return to work with breast cancer and head and neck cancer were at the forefront of research. Conclusions  Developed countries in Europe and the United States, led by the United States, hold a leading position in research related to return to work of cancer patients, but there is still little research in this field in China. It is suggested that domestic scholars should refer to foreign experiences and management systems to promote return to work of cancer patients based on our national conditions.
