Abstract: Sepsis is one of the most common infectious diseases. Inflammatory response is an important mechanism of sepsis from mild to septic shock. NOD like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome is a protein complex in human body. It is regulated by many factors and can trigger immune response and cell death. When the regulatory mechanism of NLRP3 inflammatory body is unbalanced, excessive inflammatory response will cause cell damage, even irreversible tissue lesions, and accelerate organ damage. At present, NLRP3 inflammasome has attracted extensive attention as a potential therapeutic target for sepsis. This paper reviews the main activation pathways of NLRP3 inflammasome, the mechanism of NLRP3 inflammasome affecting the process of sepsis, and the regulatory effect of traditional Chinese medicine on NLRP3 inflammasome in sepsis.
