Abstract:

Objective To establish a digital classification system based on AO classification for floating knee injury. Methods The data of 100 adult patients with floating knee injury admitted to Binzhou Medical University Hospital from March 2005 to December 2020 were retrospectively analyzed, including 74 males and 26 females, with an average age of 43.74 years old. The distribution of the affected limbs in them was 54 cases (54.0%) on the left side, 43 cases (43.0%) on the right side, and 3 cases (3.0%) on both sides. The femur and tibia were divided into three parts separately in this system based on AO classification, which had six types after partial combination. The patients' images in this study were analyzed by using the classification to summarize the distribution rule of the classification in floating knee injury. The count data were measured by χ2 test. Results The proportions of type Ⅰ-Ⅵ injury were 42.7% (44/103) for type Ⅰ, 18.4% (19/103) for type Ⅱ, 9.7% (10/103) for type Ⅲ, 10.7% (11/103) for type Ⅳ, 11.7% (12/103) for type Ⅴ, and 6.8% (7/103) for type Ⅵ, respectively. There were no statistically significant differences in the gender (χ2=6.068, P>0.05) and injury side (χ2=0.658, P>0.05) among different injury types. Conclusion The digital classification system of floating knee injury based on AO classification can classify most cases of floating knee injury and cases with open injury, which refers a reference effectively for the selection of surgical treatment plans and is more conducive to prognosis evaluation and academic exchange.
