Abstract: Objective To explore the effect of quality control circle activities on reducing the rate of physical restraint in inpatients with mental illness. Methods The inpatients with psychosis who used physical restraint in Brain Hospital Affiliated to Guangzhou Medical University from January to December 2019 were selected as a pre-intervention control group, and routine management was adopted. From January to December 2020, the hospitalized psychiatric patients with physical constraints were used as a post-intervention research group, and one-year quality control circle activities was carried out. χ2 test was used to analyze the difference in the inpatients' physical restraint rates before and after the implementation. Results After the implementation of the activities, the physical restraint rate of the psychiatric patients decreased significantly [1.99% (272/13 663) vs. 0.88% (95/10 795)], with a statistical difference (χ2=48.914, P<0.05). Conclusion Quality control circle activities can significantly reduce the physical restraint rate of inpatients with mental illness, and form a standardized effective measure, which not only ensures the patients' safety, but also improves the overall work quality of our department.
